What's in your snake cage?

Snake Cage

Sheila and Monty want to know what’s in your snake cage?

Right now we’ve got substrate, a water bowl, driftwood, and a half log hide, and another water bowl turned upside down for a hide.

I have a corn snake in a 20 gallon tank, with a water bowl (big enough for her to submerge her entire body if needed to help shed skin), a hiding log, a hanging plant that cascades over the flooring for her to hide, climb, and entwine herself in, another plant beside the water bowl that has a suction cup to stick to the glass wall and helps her manage getting a drink of water, and lastly i have a plant ( all fake ) in the middle of her terrarium on a piece of driftwood. I use aspen bedding for her as it enables her to burrow, yet does not harm her ( it’s non toxic). I have a humidity gauge and a thermometer. I have a thermometer on both sides of her cage, that way i can tell the temp at night and during the day. I use a day light and a red night light that i put on the top of her screen so she can regulate her body temp.

Hi Julia, your setup sounds nice.

Thanks for sharing it with us.

I would use the reptile bulb for more natural coloration. However, most snakes do not need special lighting. You should, though, put the under tank heater at one end of the tank and leave the other end unheated.
